It has been a while that I went to Goa for vacations. People who know me are aware of the fact that I am a beach girl and Goa is a place I love to visit over and over again. Twice a year is like normal. Yes! I love it that much. But I haven’t been able to go there from quite some time now (2 years I think π¦ , that is a lot actually). I recently heard about this place that has this Goa beach theme and I really really wanted to go there (for obvious reasons π π )
My best friend was in town for the weekend (what are the odds π ), so now I definitely had to go and check this place out π π (I was left with no option you see π )
Location: It is located in Delhi’s heart β€ β€ – Connaught Place. There is a bit of parking issue. I went by metro so it was just walking distance away from exit A. Take the stair that has no adjacent escalator to it (Yes, I remember it like that π ) Take a right when you are out and you will spot UCB, just go past that, cross Starbucks, keep moving straight and cross the road. Just within 10 steps you will find Lady Baga on your right hand side (above Subway). TA-DA!
Ambience: It is so so vibrant and colorful that you will definitely get the Goa vibes as you enter. As soon as you step out of the lift, you step in sand π Yes! They have spread sand on the floor (half of the area, including the bar) with beach benches and beach chairs. As you move on, they have this water decoration near the bar, moving forward there are two big screens in place of walls (over walls I think π ) where they display the beach view with the waves and all. Yes! You actually need to see this once. On the same side they have the stage for live music. And in case you feel like going to the washroom, please ask someone because you definitely won’t be able to find it on your own. The door is camouflaged with the screen π Yeah! So don’t even try finding it. Moving upstairs, first of all – very very bright stairs π (which I loved), they have hammocks (I doubt how comfortable would it be to eat on them though π ), two big group shack like sitting, a van. And mind you, everything is super colorful and super bright. They also have 3 tables (beach beds) outside/ roof topΒ on sand π The hangings are very pretty. In short the ambience is something that you would definitely like. But personally I think these chairs take up a lot of space and the sitting space/count is reduced due to that. Just a thought π
Staff: They have recently opened so they were actively trying to communicate. The chef was out to ask about the food, the Manager was there to assist and take feedback. The waiters were nice too. They had this colorful T shirts with Om written on them.
Service: Well! I don’t think they were properly ready to handle the kind of rush they got. We reached there around 12:30 and got a seat real comfortably. But for people who came after us, they had to wait in long queues and many of them were complaining too. We had to remind the waiter about our order a number of times. It was served pretty late.
Food: Goan spices are there for sure! I personally loved what I ordered but my vegetarian friend thought otherwise. She did not really like the food. And to be honest there were not much options for vegetarians. Also, instead of a green circle you will find “V” written beside vegetarian dishes π (we figured it out a little late). Also the portion that they serve is too less π π (seriously!!)
The Fried GoanΒ (v) :Β Creamy potato tikka stuffed with local Goan spiced veggies. Crumb- fried and served with chutney and herbed mayo. – You only get 3 pieces of this and there was no herbed mayo whatsoever π
Porta Porta Paneer-eon (v): Portuguese Piri Piri grilled paneer served with sago wafers. – It wasn’t spicy, just fried paneer sticks rolled in some spices π¦ Personally I feel paneer is something that does not absorb the spices and gravy that much, so you need to have quite a lot of masala on it or in the dish in which you can later dip the paneer pieces so that they doesn’t taste bland. (chatori chatori, yes I am π π )
Light My Fire: Red-hot boneless chicken cooked in fiery, semi-dry Goan masala. – Loved it! π β€
Kombdi V/S Tisrio: It’s chicken or clams tossed in a coarse house-spice mix, onions and coconut.Β – Loved it!Β π β€
Music: They had the Goan style live band playing even in the day time which I hardly find anywhere, so it was kind of good. Enjoyed it!
To summarise, Lady Baga does give that Goan feeling with all the shacks, the sand, the beach benches, the goan spices and the colors. But they really need to step up their game when it comes to vegetarian food and their service. Also, it will be better if they work on the portions too π π
Do give it a go at least once. The feeling is nice π It will surely pep up your mood. But don’t forget to book in advance though π .
MM love β 3.5Β
